By Rosa Macaulay.
Nicole panted slightly and let the slippery reins drop delicately through her quivering hands that now rested on Honey’s copper coat, the horse to was now trembling with anticipation.
Honey, Nicole's mare lowered her head and snorted of in what sounded like disbelief. Nicole couldn't believe it either a few quick minutes ago Honey and Nicole had put on a flawless near perfect round of Grand Prix showjumping, they had knocked no rails down which meant that they had gone clear with a swift time which put them in second place.
Nicole couldn't believe it because it had always been her dream even as she had lain in bed as a little girl to train a horse and turn it into a winning Grand Prix showjumping horse and her dream had come true a few years ago at Oakridge Stables where she boards her retired racehorse that became hers her riding instructor, Angela gave her a miserable little filly who became, Honey and she had at that time lost her mother at birth. From the moment Nicole saw her she fell in love with the ‘madam’ filly that Nicole knew would one day be a champion.
But that ‘madam’ mood that came back every so offen proved to be a bit of a problem for Nicole as Honey had proved that morning in the warm up arena when Nicole tried to go over some practice jumps,Honey had threw a bucking fit and promptly dumped Nicole onto the warm up arena floor Nicole wasn't injured but was just left embarrassed which was why Nicole was in such disbelief about Honey’s out of the blue, spectacular performance in the arena that morning.
Now because they were second place only one competitor, the Dutch rider and his striking chestnut stallion stood in their way of first place in the jump off, it would be tricky to beat them, they hadn't put a foot wrong all day. . .
Nicole took a deep breath, ”C’mon, girl, let's show them what we can do.”
The End
